โEnsure vehicles are kept at authorised operating centres, only authorised centres are used, vehicles are specified on the licence and any operating centre conditions are met.โ
In respect of each operating centre specified, that the number of vehicles and the number of trailers kept there will not exceed the maximum numbers authorised at each operating centre (which will be noted on the licence).
It is essential that when you apply for your licence that you have sufficient margin to run your operations smoothly and do not either waste unnecessary funds making extra applications for vehicle increases or end up with more vehicles/trailers at your operating centre than you are authorised to hold there.
In the interests of the environment, and persons quiet enjoyment of their land, you must advertise how many vehicles or trailers you want to operate and where the land is which you wish to use. This is to allow anyone who wishes to do so to object on environmental grounds.
Any serious objections are considered by the Traffic Commissioner and if they are dismissed and your operating centre becomes authorised you must ensure you stay within the limit.
Issues could arise if you have some vehicles off the road due to accident damage and have hired in extra vehicles to replace them. Whilst they may not be being operated at the time, it is best practice to ask for more vehicles than you need to give yourself a bit of flexibility in the event of an accident or a sudden surge in demand.
It is essential that you plan for your future workload and apply for the right number of vehicles to include a bit of flexibility as this will ensure you have continuity of trade and do not get caught out from having too many assets at your operating centre.
You must also ensure that no unauthorised operating centre is not used in any traffic area as this is not allowed.
