Total Compliance Joins the Transport Compliance Conversation at WiL UK Annual Conference 2026
Total Compliance was delighted to attend the Women in Logistics UK Annual Conference 2026 on Tuesday 19 May, held at Maersk East Midlands Gateway.
The event brought together professionals from across logistics, transport and supply chain for a full day of insight, discussion and connection. With this year’s theme, “Together, All the Way”, the conference placed a strong focus on community, allyship and collective progress across the sector.
For Total Compliance, it was a valuable opportunity to be part of an important industry conversation, meet with peers from across the logistics world, and contribute practical transport compliance insight during the day’s panel discussions.
A Strong Focus on Transport Compliance, Responsibility and Good Practice
Sally-Anne Cressey, General Manager at Total Compliance, spoke as part of the conference compliance panel, where she shared her experience and answered questions from delegates.
The discussion explored the importance of maintaining strong compliance standards across transport and logistics operations. Sally-Anne highlighted that compliance should never be treated as a simple tick-box exercise. It is an ongoing responsibility that needs to be understood, monitored and embedded into daily operations.
This was particularly clear when she explained why maintenance needs to be understood as a legal responsibility, not just an operational routine:
“Maintenance is much more than just ticking boxes. A lot of our operators feel that if they’ve ticked the boxes, they’re doing the right thing. Whereas actually, it’s about the legal side of things. If they don’t do what they’re meant to do, they may not have a licence, which means they may not have a job, an operation or a livelihood. That’s the biggest thing.”
For operators, staying compliant is about far more than having paperwork in place. It means having systems that work in practice, teams that understand their responsibilities, and management processes that are regularly reviewed. From driver training and vehicle checks to operator licence responsibilities and audit readiness, compliance needs to be active, visible and consistent.
The panel gave delegates the chance to ask questions and explore real challenges faced by businesses operating in a heavily regulated environment. It also reinforced the value of open discussion, shared learning and practical support across the wider transport and logistics community.
Why Compliance Cannot be Left Until There is a Problem
One of the key messages from the day was that compliance works best when it is proactive.
Waiting until an issue arises can put operators under unnecessary pressure, particularly where records, processes or responsibilities are unclear. By keeping compliance under regular review, businesses can identify gaps earlier, strengthen internal processes and reduce the risk of avoidable problems.
At Total Compliance, this is something we see regularly. Good compliance should not make life harder for operators. It should give businesses confidence that their systems, records and responsibilities are clear, current and working in practice.
For transport operators, this can make a real difference. A proactive approach can help protect the operator licence, support safer road transport, improve internal accountability and make audits less stressful. It also helps teams understand what is expected of them, rather than leaving compliance knowledge with just one person in the business.
The conference provided a useful platform to talk about these issues in a practical way, with input from people who understand the realities of working in logistics, transport and supply chain environments.
A Fantastic Day for Networking and Industry Insight
Reflecting on the event, Sally-Anne said:
“It was a really great day at the WiL Conference 2026. The venue was fantastic, and it was a brilliant opportunity to connect with people from across the logistics and transport sector. I was pleased to be part of the Compliance Panel and to hear so many relevant, practical subjects being discussed. Events like this are so valuable because they bring people together to share insight, experience and ideas that genuinely matter to the industry.”
The Maersk East Midlands Gateway provided an excellent setting for the conference, bringing together professionals from different areas of the industry in a supportive and inclusive environment. Throughout the day, delegates had the opportunity to hear from keynote speakers, take part in panel discussions, join speed networking sessions and connect with peers, partners and industry leaders.
For Total Compliance, the event was not only a chance to share expertise, but also to listen. Conversations like these are important because they help shape a better understanding of the pressures, priorities and opportunities facing the sector.
They also reflect the importance of shared learning. Transport compliance is not static. Regulations, expectations and best practice continue to evolve, which means operators need access to clear guidance, reliable training and practical support that reflects the real demands of running compliant transport operations.
Supporting Progress Across the Logistics Sector
The theme “Together, All the Way” felt especially relevant to the compliance conversation. Strong compliance cultures are built through shared understanding, leadership, communication and support.
As the logistics sector continues to evolve, businesses need to remain alert to regulatory expectations and operational responsibilities. Events such as the WiL UK Annual Conference help create the space for those conversations to happen, while also celebrating the people and organisations working to move the industry forward.
Total Compliance was proud to be part of the day and to support a conference focused on connection, professional development and positive progress across logistics and transport.
A huge thank you to Women in Logistics UK for hosting such a valuable event, and to everyone who joined the compliance panel discussion and contributed to the conversations throughout the day.
