Every professional bus and coach driver must complete 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every five years. Without a valid Driver Qualification Card, your drivers cannot legally operate, and you risk fines of up to £1,000 per driver plus damage to your operator compliance record.
Total Compliance delivers JAUPT-approved Driver CPC training designed specifically for PSV drivers. We offer live remote courses, in-person training at our centres, and on-site delivery at your premises, so you can choose the format that works best for your operation.

How We Deliver Training
At Your Premises
We come to your depot or facility and deliver training on site, minimising driver downtime and allowing you to train multiple drivers in a single session. This is particularly cost-effective for larger fleets and means your drivers are never far from the operation if they are needed.
In Person at Our Training Centre
Individual drivers or small groups can attend scheduled courses at our training facilities in Lincolnshire. This is a good option for operators with smaller fleets or drivers who prefer a classroom environment.
Live Remote
Interactive training delivered in real time by a trainer via video platform. Drivers participate, ask questions, and engage in discussion just as they would in a classroom. This is not self-paced e-learning. It is a live, trainer-led remote session that counts towards face-to-face training hours and is available to drivers anywhere in the UK.
National and International Driver CPC: What You Need to Know
The Driver CPC system was reformed in December 2024, creating two distinct routes. This is directly relevant to how you plan and schedule training for your PSV drivers.
International Driver CPC
The existing system, renamed. Required for drivers who operate in the UK and EU. Courses must be at least seven hours, split courses must be on consecutive days, and a maximum of 12 hours can be e-learning.
National Driver CPC
A new, more flexible option for UK-only drivers. Courses can be as short as 3.5 hours, and split courses no longer need consecutive days. For PSV operators running domestic services, this reduces driver downtime significantly. The DQC issued is marked 'DOMESTIC UK USE ONLY'.
Return to Driving CPC
From February 2025, drivers with expired CPC can complete a seven-hour module and resume driving immediately, then finish the remaining 28 hours within 12 months. This is a significant development for PSV operators experiencing driver shortages, providing a faster pathway for experienced drivers to return to the industry.

Why Choose Total Compliance?
Our CPC modules are designed for passenger transport, not adapted from HGV content. We cover the topics that PSV drivers actually need, including passenger duty of care, disability awareness, PSVAR compliance, and emergency evacuation. We can also deliver bespoke modules tailored to your specific operation, whether that is urban bus routes, long-distance coaching, school transport, or community services.
Our PSV Driver CPC Modules
Passenger Safety and Duty of Care
The PSV driver's responsibilities towards passengers: boarding and alighting, vulnerable passengers, disability awareness, and PSVAR compliance. The module that most clearly distinguishes PSV training from HGV content.
Drivers' Hours, Tachographs, and Working Time
EU and domestic rules for PSV operations, tachograph usage, and the Working Time Directive. Includes split shift and layover management specific to bus and coach scheduling.
Vehicle Safety and Walkaround Checks
Daily checks for PSV vehicles, defect reporting, and the driver's role in roadworthiness. Covers passenger doors, wheelchair ramps, emergency exits, and interior safety equipment.
Emergency Procedures and Conflict Management
Vehicle evacuation, first aid awareness, managing passenger incidents, and de-escalation. Areas where bus and coach drivers face very different challenges to HGV drivers.
Professional Driving Standards
Fuel efficiency, route planning, road safety, and professional conduct when representing your operator to the public.
