At the FORS conference this week there was a video played which I had never since before from 1981. They only showed the start of it as today it would be classed as so inappropriate, however, it is hilarious! I will put a link at the bottom so you can watch it, if you are interested.
The information from the speaker was very true though about the truckers image, and the industry image, back in the 70’s and 80’s and compared to today.
The logistics industry affects everything and everyone in someway and yet the general public do not seem to realise this and somehow see trucks in a negative way.
The industry was under appreciated then and is still under appreciate now.
The industry had a poor public reputation then, and still has this now.
There has always been a need to tackle driver health and safety, and although vastly improved, there is still a long way to go, especially when it comes to mental health.
The logistics industry fails to promote a good image and this is true today.
So this is why introducing standards like FORS, CLOCS and DVSA Earned Recognition, are to not only increase standards throughout, they are to aiming to change the whole culture and image of transport in a positive way.
Not many people like change, however it is inevitable, and sometimes you have to take that step forwards and join the movement and not get left behind.
