Bikeability Level 1: A Beginner's Guide to Cycling

Level 1 is the starting point for your cycling adventure. It is an exciting opportunity to learn the basics of cycling in a safe and fun environment. The course is usually held off-road, such as on a school playground, so that children can learn without having to worry about traffic.

What will I learn?

Bikeability Level 1 teaches you everything you need to know to get started cycling, including:

  • How to maintain your bike
  • How to glide
  • How to control your bike
  • How to pedal
  • How to be aware of your surroundings

Who is it for?

Bikeability Level 1 is suitable for children aged 7 to 9 years old. However, children of all ages can take the course if they are able to ride a bike without stabilizers.

  • How to start and stop with confidence
  • How to pass stationary vehicles
  • How to understand road signs and markings
  • How to negotiate junctions, crossroads, and roundabouts
  • How to share the road with other vehicles

Who is it for?

Bikeability Level 2 is suitable for children aged 9 to 11 years old. However, children of all ages can take the course if they are able to cycle confidently off-road and have a basic understanding of road safety.

Bikeability Level 3: Advanced Cycling Skills
